About the place ...
The Ghatge Ram Temple, envisioned by Raja Vikramsinh Ghatge and inaugurated for public worship in 2016, draws architectural inspiration from the Akshardham temples of Delhi and Ahmedabad. Built entirely from lustrous Makrana marble (the same stone used in the Taj Mahal), the temple’s two-storey structure boasts symmetrical facades, a central courtyard, and elegant porches (mukhmandaps) on three sides. Ornate lotus, flower, peacock, and vine motifs decorate its columns, and domed ceilings glisten with intricate floral work.
At the core is the main shrine, housing splendid marble idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman kneeling at their feet, all beneath a celestial dome and flanked by showering elephant carvings. Four subsidiary shrines encircle the sanctum, dedicated to Ganesh (in the Riddhi–Siddhi forms), Dattatreya, Mahalaxmi, and Shiva–Parvati—all crafted with sublime precision. Entrance pillar carvings depict sacred Ramayana scenes: Valmiki Rishi, Dasharatha–Kausalya, Lav–Kush, and above the lintel, the nine avatars of Vishnu (Matsya to Kalki).
Nine spires (shikharas) rise above the temple toward a central dome, each topped with a decorative Amalaka kalash, symbolizing spiritual ascent. A vast basement hall (4000 sq. ft.) serves as a center for meditation, prayer, and community activities, reflecting the temple’s commitment to wellbeing and knowledge.
Festival highlights include Ram Navami, Dussehra, Navratri, Datta Jayanti, Ganesh Jayanti, and Mahashivratri, each celebrated with vibrant bhajans, discourses, and musical gatherings. The temple is a beacon of artistry within Kolhapur, attracting visitors for its modern architecture and royal legacy
