Neelkantheshwar Temple, Sindkhed Raja

Neelkantheshwar Temple is an ancient temple believed to date to around the eleventh century and is one of the historic religious sites associated with Sindkhed Raja. The temple was renovated by Raja Lakhuji Jadhav, adding another important layer to its historical association. Inside the temple is a finely crafted Harihar sculpture, an intriguing representation that combines two major Hindu traditions: the right side depicts Shiva, while the left side represents Vishnu. This distinctive sculpture is one of the most interesting features to observe during a visit.
The temple has a peaceful atmosphere and is described as being clean and well maintained inside. An underground passage and a room associated with ascetics are also present within the temple complex, adding to its architectural and historical interest. Nearby is an old stepwell that is presently in a neglected condition. Local residents also associate the stepwell with stories about its considerable depth and with an earlier arrangement of twelve Shiva lingas, of which only three are said to remain today.
