Vela...

Velas Beach, located in Dapoli Taluka, is not just a pristine coastal retreat but also a symbol of community-led turtle conservation in Maharashtra. This quiet beach has gained fame as the nesting site for Olive Ridley turtles, and each year, travelers visit Velas to witness the magical event of turtle hatchlings making their first journey into the sea.

The beach itself is clean, wide, and backed by coconut groves and farmlands. Its rustic charm lies in the fact that Velas has remained free from commercial exploitation, with locals running homestays and eco-tourism programs. The village is committed to eco-tourism and wildlife protection, and the beach is monitored during turtle nesting season to prevent disturbance.

The Velas Turtle Festival, usually held from February to April, is the main attraction. During this time, conservationists and volunteers work with villagers to ensure safe hatching and release of the turtles. Visitors can attend educational sessions, interact with wildlife experts, and enjoy local Konkani food.

Besides the beach, visitors can explore nearby attractions like the Bankot Fort, Harihareshwar Temple, and mangrove forests, making Velas a wholesome destination
