The temple is 6 km from Gadhinglaj and 64 km from Kolhapur, accessible by ST buses and private vehicles directly to Inchanal. The complex and sanctum are easily accessed by gentle steps
The optimum time to visit the temple is during Ganesh Jayanti and Ganeshotsav (August–September), when major processions, devotional festivities, and special Mahaprasad draw pilgrims from all over. The first week of February features a remarkable event when direct sunlight enters the sanctum, illuminating the deity’s face—an architectural alignment cherished by devotees and photographers. Cool, dry months from October to March are perfect for sightseeing
About the place ...
Set at the center of Inchanal, on the scenic banks of the Hiranyakeshi River, the temple complex is enclosed within walled gardens and a grand arched gateway. The entrance features square pillars, a central dome, gatekeeper sculptures (Jay and Vijay), and carvings of Vishnu, Krishna, Hanuman, and Garuda. The temple’s flat-roofed assembly hall (Sabhamandap), is built from volcanic stone sourced from Karnataka and crowned by a three-tier, 66-foot-tall maratha-style spire with lotus carvings and an Amalaka Kalash on top. Each tier houses eight stone-carved deity niches.
Inside, the vestibule showcases a mouse idol with a laddu and the sanctum entrance reveals a brass-plated door with floral motifs, Ganesh relief, Shivling, and Nandi. The focal point is the two-foot-tall black stone Ganesh idol: four-armed (holding a noose, goad, nectar bowl, and bestowing blessings), cinched with a serpent belt. The idol’s ancient design and Peshwa-era restoration are linked with spiritual poetry by Ramdas Swami and local devotees.
Special sanctity is attributed to the temple’s solar event every February, when the rising sun’s rays bathe the face of Ganesh for seven days, believed to amplify the fulfilment of prayers. The temple is a Panchayatan—hosting shrines to Shiva-Parvati, Nandis, and Mahadev beside a traditional Gomukh kund (sacred spring).
The drum hall (Nagarkhana), measuring 39 x 10 feet, crowns the entrance, with the ceiling inside the closed hall displaying carved geometric patterns on circular pillars. Worship is conducted in pure attire (sovale), adhering to age-old ritual traditions
