The Sateri Mahadev Temple perches atop the easternmost hill of a 22-peak range. The approach winds through forests, waterfalls, and paddy fields. At the base stands the Sateri Devi Temple—a Hemadpanti-style shrine honoring seven goddesses symbolized by uneven stone icons, celebrated by villagers during Navratri.

A short climb via well-built stairways lined with railings leads to a colossal monolithic Nandi (carved five feet high), its ornately chiseled ornaments capturing mythic grandeur. The temple itself is cut from a single rock, with a conical spire and circular chamber. Inside sits a striking Shivling on a broad shalunka, shaded by a brass serpent hood, flanked by tridents and adjacent Parvati and Ganesh icons. The chamber’s faded floral ceiling medallion hints at a once-glorious motif, and a marble Ganesh idol nestled in a “cave” wall amplifies the site’s otherworldly character.

Outside, a 40-foot-deep step well is carved into the hillside—a testament to ancient water harvesting ingenuity. Hero stones (Veergals) from the pre-Shilahara period dot the grounds, their engravings depicting battles, cattle protection, ascension to heaven, and worship scenes reflecting the region’s rich warrior legacy

From the summit, visitors enjoy panoramic vistas—Masai Plateau, Jyotiba, Panhala, and Tulshi Reservoirs are visible on clear days. The cool temperature inside the rock temple remains constant year-round, creating a soothing atmosphere regardless of season
