About the place ...
Shiv Mandir in Korhale Budruk is a historic temple located in the Baramati taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. This temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, holds significant cultural and architectural importance and is a revered spiritual site in the region.
Korhale Budruk, where the temple is situated, is approximately 85 km from Pune city. The temple itself dates back to the 13th century CE and is built in the elegant Bhūmija architectural style prominent during the Yadava period. The layout includes key temple segments such as the nandīmaṇḍapa (a pavilion with Nandi sculptures), sabhāmaṇḍapa (assembly hall), antarāḷa (vestibule), and garbhagṛha (sanctum sanctorum) housing the Shiva lingam.
One of the temple’s notable features is its intricately carved pillars and sculptures, with the nandīmaṇḍapa boasting detailed images of various forms of Vishnu at the front and Surasundarī sculptures at the rear. The lifelike Nandi sculpture at the center is especially remarkable with realistic vein etchings. The temple’s shikhara (spire) is designed in the Bhūmija style, showcasing multiple layers with kuṭastambhas (pillar clusters) and decorative elements such as grīvā, āmalaka, and kalaśa on top. Though some parts of the temple have been painted over, possibly obscuring original details, the structure still conveys its rich historical and artistic value
