About the place ...

The Sai Baba Temple is not only a spiritual landmark but a symbol of universal unity beyond caste, creed, and religion. Sai Baba arrived in Shirdi around 1854 as a young boy and later returned in a wedding procession led by Chand Patil. When the Khandoba priest Mhalsapati welcomed him saying “Yaa Sai” (“Come, Sai”), he received the name revered by millions ever since.

Baba lived a simple life in Dwarkamai, a humble mosque that became the cradle of divine teachings. His philosophy emphasized universal brotherhood, faith, patience (shraddha and saburi), and equality among all religions. Among his numerous miracles, the famous instance of lighting lamps with water highlighted his divine powers and mercy toward those who doubted him. Over the decades, innumerable devotees have experienced relief from suffering and fulfillment of wishes after seeking Baba’s blessings.

Sai Baba’s Samadhi (final rest) lies in a grand marble temple built in 1918 by Bapusaheb Butti. Originally meant for Lord Muralidhar, it became the saint’s eternal resting place by his own will. The Samadhi Temple houses Baba’s marble idol seated peacefully, symbolizing divine presence and eternal bliss.

The sanctum remains the heart of daily worship, where five Aartis are conducted every day — Bhupali, Kakad, Madhyan, Dhoop, and Shej Aarti. Devotees can participate in these via advance online booking through the Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust. Nearby sacred places include Dwarkamai, Chavadi, Guru Sthan (under the sacred neem tree), and Lendi Baug, where an eternal lamp called Nandadeep still burns.

The temple complex also offers excellent facilities for pilgrims — from Bhaktanivas accommodation, free Mahaprasad, medical care, and guided temple tours to well-maintained parking areas. Every Thursday, a grand palanquin procession carrying Baba’s portrait and padukas (holy footwear) circles the main streets of Shirdi, symbolizing his perpetual blessings on devotees
