About the place ...

Jain tradition celebrates Bahubali as the son of the first Tirthankar, Rishabhanath, known for his unmatched meditation and renunciation. Kumbhoj has been a revered ascetic center since the 8th century CE, with a documented presence of saintly Jain munis and centuries-old worship. Historic records mark the installation of a 6-foot Bahubali idol in 1156 CE, well before today’s grand 28-foot statue—erected in 1963 atop a hillock and visible for miles around.

Visitors enter the tirtha via a grand main gate and ascend 50 steps flanked by artistic elephant sculptures, arriving at the colossal Bahubali idol in kayotsarga posture. Below, the temple complex features replicas and models of India’s great Jain pilgrimage sites (Shatrunjay, Rajgir, Kundalpur, Khanda Giri, Mangi-Tungi, Sammed Shikhar, Girnar, Kailash, and more), inviting reflection on Jain spiritual geography.

Ancient carvings—such as a cow feeding a tiger cub—and a rich series of Digambar Jain temples (dedicated to Shantinath, Chandraprabhu, Adinath, the Samavsharan, and Jal Mandir) surround the main statue. The complex also houses revered padukas (sacred footprints) of great Munis and beautiful stone mandaps for meditation and worship

Bahubali Tirth Kshetra was restored and expanded in 1984 and is classified as a Grade B pilgrimage center by the Maharashtra government. The tranquil Dharamshala offers clean lodging, food, and hospitality to all pilgrims and guests
