Motorable Road till destination
October, especially during Dussehra, is the best time to experience the vibrant celebrations of Ravan worship. Winters (November–February) are also pleasant for visits
About the place ...
In the heart of Patur taluka, Akola district, lies a truly unique and rare destination—Ravan Sangola, the only place in Maharashtra where Ravan is worshipped as a deity. Unlike the rest of India, where Ravan is often burnt during Dussehra celebrations, this village has upheld a 300-year-old tradition of devotion to Ravan, making it an intriguing destination for cultural explorers.
According to local legend, villagers originally planned to install a sage’s idol under a sacred tree, but due to a misunderstanding, the sculptor created a striking idol of Ravan with ten heads and twenty arms. When the idol was brought to the village, it is believed that it mysteriously stopped at one spot and refused to move further. Since then, Ravan has remained there, and villagers began worshipping him with devotion.
The Ravan idol in Sangola is revered as a protector and granter of wishes. On Dussehra, when the rest of the country burns effigies of Ravan, here, villagers perform Maha Aarti and grand rituals in his honor. The temple has recently received government approval for renovation, ensuring that this heritage of faith will be preserved for future generations
