Rameshwar Panchayatan, Kalambaste

Kalambaste village, located about 3 km from Kasba Sangameshwar, is home to this sacred site. The Rameshwar Panchayatan temple is situated in Satlewadi, a quiet hamlet within the village. Reaching the shrine is an experience in itself, as visitors follow a charming pathway from the main road into a serene natural setting. Originally built around 1780, the temple was constructed by Shri Ganu, a resident of the village who was in the service of the noble queen Ahilyabai Holkar. Inspired by her generosity and devotion, he sought her support to build not just a Shiva temple but a complete Panchayatan. With her contribution, the magnificent shrine came into being.

The sanctum houses a black stone Shivlinga and a beautiful idol of Mahishasurmardini. The other deities of the Panchayatan—Vishnu, Devi, Surya, and Ganesha—are enshrined in small niches within the premises. These finely carved marble idols were brought all the way from Madhya Pradesh on horseback and are admired for their elegance and unique craftsmanship. The temple also features a striking Nandi statue with intricate carvings, two tall Deepmalas (lamp towers), and a well-maintained stone stepwell (barav) at the rear. The reflection of surrounding trees in its clear water creates a captivating sight.

The temple was once in ruins but was beautifully restored thanks to the dedicated efforts of locals, supported by journalist Shri Satyawan Vichare, Shri J.D. Paradkar, and the residents of Satlewadi. Today, it stands as a proud heritage monument of Kalambaste village. The calm and spiritual atmosphere of the temple, set against a backdrop of lush greenery, makes it an ideal spot for those seeking peace, history, and natural beauty.
